Had a session at Narrabeen Lagoon this morning. Started off throwing a 2" minnow sp on a tiny weedless jig around some weedbeds. No interest so swapped over to a cheapo popper (both lures were still on the rods from my last bream session which I think was over 12 months ago). The popper quickly started getting strikes but, as is the way of surface luring, connection was much harder. Kept at the weedbed edges with a light breeze behind me. Eventually got the connection, the leader is visible as is a flash of silver from a small bream, then it let go. This set a pattern for the popping - regular strikes with rare connection and nothing sticking all the way back.
In the meantime I threw the sp out the back and managed a couple of connections, skulldragging a massive bream back to the yak on 4lb line and getting a slightly better whiting. At least that was positive as I don't recall having caught a whiting in the lagoon or ever having gotten one on a proper sp

I have been thinking about your conundrum and I have been trying to find how we can turn this bad situation of yours into a glass 1/2 full situation. This is what I have come up with.
You have been trying to get a legal kingfish from your kayak for some time but as other species were your target you didn't pay too much attention to the subject and the finer details. Well now what better excuse as the Kings are in the harbour and you could head out and really give it a good crack and get this monkey offf your back.
Take some time to prepare, get the right bait and get out there and nail a couple.
Anyway I am glad you are stil fishing even if it isn't your first preference i am sure you still had fun with the whiting and bream
cheers

Yeah Mike. I'm formulating a plan along those lines. Let's see how I go
