A few recent trips for very little return - just a bonnie last week on the paddle back in. One of them was very short - got out through the surf only to be blasted by a southerly so scurried back to shore.
Today at least we a bit eventful. Managed to connect twice to what were probably kings only to be reefed. Another short strike. Fish were tight into structure so the light line (25lb) was a luxury. Unfortunately they only took the drifted sp on the baitcaster. The spin outfit with the heavier line didn't get a touch.
So this is my dilemma. I could take out the trolling rig (TLD15 with 50lb line) and use that for drifting an sp, but I use a 3.5g jig so it is a pain in the arse to feed out the line, especially on a breezy day like today where I also have the drogue in use.
Here is a summary of my arsenal:
* 6-8kg 7' spin rod, Stradic 4000, 40lb line - main spin outfit for snapper, kings, trevally, ...
* 4kg 6'6" spin rod, 2500 reel, 10lb line - light spin for plate size snapper, trevs, salmon, ...
* 5-10kg casting rod, AlphaS 150, 25lb line - mainly used for drifting large sps for kings and snapper
* 4kg casting rod, small reel, 10lb line - basically just used for casting at bonito
* 20kg light jig rod, TLD15, 50lb line - jigging and trolling large lures, rarely used with bait
Any suggestions? If I need another outfit, what would you recommend? Don't want to get too expensive but may have to bite the bullet here

Dave on the bright side you are getting plenty of hookups I think way more than the rest of us lately.Sounds like you would have had no chance when they are that close to the structure. On the heavier gear you probably won't get as many hits. Maybe try a baitrunner or a lighter drag as strong initial resistance will send them straight into the structure as the harder you pull the harder the king pulls. Then try to put the brakes on when the fish has used up a bit of energy.
