Picked up the new boat on Wednesday - a carbon-kevlar Stealth ProFisha 475. This is a boat that Bruce had discussed with Barry, with some input from me, so I was very keen to see how it paddled. I'd always felt the Evolution range had two issues - unnecessarily wide (although not so much for the 430) and seat a bit far back (most obvious with the 430). The result was they, particularly the 430, are slow. The ProFishas have a narrower beam, 605mm, and an increased rocker for ease of surfing. The big question was how would it sit in the water.
Fitted a temporary anchor trolley using just a loop of webbing connected to the rear handle and the seat mount point on the right hand side. Not very smooth but will see how it goes for a bit - probably add some pulleys and clips to make it removable. Also made a bungy loop to hold the head of the sounder on the hatch lid. This worked quite well so I won't bother with sticking down velcro.
The fish box seems smaller than for the Evo. This is to be expected with the narrower beam but does mean it is a very tight fit for three rods. Might have to make more use of the rear hatch or just take less gear.
First paddling impressions: no loss of stability with the narrower beam; footwell venturis are a wonderful thing (how can one be fitted to the seat?); it is slicker than the 430. The bow sits out of the water, but not as much as I was afraid it might. Reached some impressive speeds when being pushed along by the 3m swell (fastest I noticed was over 13kph). Like all of the Stealths I've paddled it was no problem in a following sea. Cut through the limited chop I had to deal with as well as the Evo - none of the crashing over chop that the bullnose skis suffer.
I guess my biggest criticism is a minor quibble. The paddle keeper bungy is too loose to hold the paddle at all securely. I can push the paddle up to the front (crosswise) carry handle for more security, but that leaves the paddle sitting too high. I'll just have to tighten the bungy.
Oh, I did manage to blood it with a small mack tuna, released to appease Poseidon and to grow up

Nice Work Blooding it on its first outing.... Seems the Yaks sold in March came with Mojo. Well done
I only just saw this.... I am disgraced.
Congratulations Peril, it's a beautiful looking boat.
Just saw you over on Dru's AKFF post about safety courses Dave. Whilst I often visit there I can no longer post hence this post. Haven't seen or heard from you in yonks mate, but glad to see you are still alive and kicking. That striking piece of Red glass should handle the old Mona Vale Sand Monster a little better than the old yella double. Hope you are keeping well. Maybe we could catch up sometime. Cheers Paul aka Occy.
Paul, Still yet to test the ski in the surf but certainly no problem with the shorie. I don't have your contact details anymore. Send me an email and we can catch up while I have time on my hands
